Nick Tyson (b. 1991, United States) is a filmmaker, editor and producer based between Paris and New York City. Over the course of a decade, he has specialized in archival storytelling as part of the production team for non-fiction media projects – ranging from films and television series for HBO, WNET and Discovery Channel to interactive media and mobile applications for museums and educators.His filmmaking practice explores queer embodiment and sensorial experience across physical and digital landscapes, engaging with forms of experimental cinema, observational documentary, and sensory ethnography. His most recent projects include “Comme une reine” (2022); “Tracing Utopia” (2021), co-directed alongside Catarina de Sousa; and the dance film “Address” (2020), filmed and edited in collaboration with dancer and choreographer Garnet Henderson. His work has screened at festivals around the world including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, and IndieLisboa International Film Festival.
He is a graduate of Columbia University, and has a masters from the Université Paris-Nanterre in documentary film and visual anthropology. He received training in film production from Prague Film School and Yale University, and was part of the UnionDocs Collaborative Studio artist residency from 2019 through 2020.
